Much Prettier!
Ta-daaa!!!! I promised you something prettier this time, so here it is!
These are some cupcakes I decorated with traditional buttercream icing. I was going for the Hello Kitty-esque look with flowers, bows, polka-dots, and hearts. I think they're super-cute. What do you think? Feedback is always appreciated!!!
Vanilla or chocolate cupcakes are available with any simple decoration of your specification!
1 cupcake for 50¢
6 cupcakes for $3
12 cupcakes for $5
We're going for very competitive prices here. With the promise that they will be far more delicious than anywhere else. ^__^

Oops... Here's a heart cake!
Okay, so I didn't get a chance to post this past Sunday, and for that I am sorry, but we were out of town and very busy. So here is a strawberry heart cake to make up for it. Love me?
This is actually just a strawberry torte that we make at work, but since I was going to buy it, I get to doctor it any way I want to :P Normally it's a single layer yellow cake based and decorated with whipped icing (which is much lighter and not as cloying as traditional buttercream icing) and topped with fresh strawberries and strawberry glaze. Since I was buying it to share with hunny for our monthiversary (we celebrate our love every month like a couple of middle-schoolers), I used a chocolate cake and decorated the icing and strawberries in the shape of a great big heart!!
It's not the prettiest thing I've ever done, but it wasn't really meant to be, either. Hunny got the message and promptly tried to devour the cake.
See, he tried to eat it before I could get a picture of it! |

What Have I Done?
So, late last night, I got the hankering to bake something delicious. But see, I am still poor, so I don't have many baking ingredients right now. I figured I had the necessary ingredients to make meringues, but the idea of plain white meringues wasn't very satisfying. My mix was the perfect consistency, stiff, fluffy peaks and all, but it was so boring. -.- Then I found some chocolate chips and got super-excited! I immediately melted them down and beat them into the mix... and ruined it. My guess is that when I melted the chocolate chips it released the coca butter and that's what ruined the consistency, because meringues are never supposed to be oily, or the mix turns into batter. I tried to add more egg whites, but nothing changed, so I baked it anyway. :P
An hour later, this is what came out.
I always seem to bake really big batches... |
Thay had funny physics. The tops of them were light and crunchy, just like meringues, and they came right off. Everything underneath was like a squishy cupcake.
This is the squishy inside after I bit it. It was super-tasty. Just really ugly ^___^
In case I decide to accidentally make these again, any idea what I should call them?

I Have Returned!!!
Okaaay... so I know I haven't updated the blog in a really long time and there a few reasons for that. >_>
Firstly, I have been in the process of moving for a while now; pretending to pack, procrastinating...yea.
Secondly, my fan-farking-tastic place of employment does not give me enough money or hours to support my baking addiction or supplement the content of this blog.
And finally, and this is the true story, my mattress sucks... so I was staying at my hunny's apartment where the kitchen is itty bitty and not mine.. and I did not feel comfortable messing a kitchen that was not mine. (You see, when I bake there WILL be mess O_o)
But I'm all settled into the new apartment now and the kitchen is ALL MINE!!! And I have plenty of time now to upload new pictures to the blog, so I will do my best to post once a week. Let's shoot for every Sunday, kay? ^__^
So, I actually have an official baking textbook now! It's great. I love it. Pastry and Baking: Mastering the Art and Craft. It has really great traditionally-made pastry recipes, but it also teaches the reasons why ingredients do what they do to make such deliciousness. Here's a picture:
For those of you who stuck around, thank you so very much. You're the best <3 See you on Sunday with a new post!! ^__^

Rome's Cake
Slowly, but surely, I am working my way through the promotional list (you remember, when I promised 1 free baked good for each person who subscribed?) The thing that is taking so long is really just finding time to bake between daily chores. -___-
After waiting so patiently, Rome finally got his vanilla-lemon cake with his name written across it! And I went ahead and made up a special honey-lemon icing to go with it.
I actually took it into work with me and used their decorating tools. Don't tell!! .____. |
Okay, so more coming very soon, I promise!!! Stay tuned! Thanks for your patience, Rome! And thanks for subscribing! ^___^

Laura's Meringues
In an attempt to entice people to my view my blog, I advertised a limited time offer of 1 specially-ordered baked good in return for subscribing to Crooked Cupcakes.
My friend Laura requested "something lemony" which left me with quite a few options to choose from. So, of course, I made baby Lemon Meringue pies!!
Btw, these are incredibly sticky to make... O_o
Lemony Meringues for Laura! |
You should know, even the greatest chefs make mistakes. I misjudged my meringue topping and did not have enough to cover each one of them... so I ended up with 1 derpy one. :P
|
Thanks for your support, Laura! The rest of the requests coming soon! <3
